ROTORUA – Geothermal fields, mud baths and bubbling mineral waters! It’s a thermal PARADISE! I had only 1 goal in mind for this entire visit… to find myself submerged in a real mud bath… and I found this at “Hell’s Gate” (literally, that’s the name of the largest Geothermal Field in Rotorua.) I toured around the fields with Liam for about 1 ½ hours before taking to the mud & minerals… I have never been so impressed by the power of our land. I submerge into nature all the time, subjecting myself to the elements – with a great respect for the trees, rocks and many other natural entities that far outlive us (humans,) and a great awareness that our world is changing in amazing magnitudes every second – the activity I witnessed in the geothermal fields is probably one of the most superior representations of what is always happening… what lies beneath.
Manuka tea is one of the most popular teas in New Zealand. It’s tiny little leaves can be seen lining many trails in the active geothermal fields. Enjoying a steaming pot of this with a little honey, post-spa Wai-O massage, medicinial hot water springs and mud-bathing is a highlight experience!
