LACK of LOTS in LISMORE… a sleepy lil’ town… - NEW SOUTH WALES, OZ

We arrived in Lismore and were looking for somewhere to eat for dinner – we never had lunch, as we were too consumed with making it to Minyon Falls in the Whian Whian State Forest… and getting lost in there too! – so when we did finally make it to a town with food we had to hold ourselves over w/a bag of chips til restaurants opened at 6pm! In Australia, if it’s a dinner spot, they usually don’t open/start serving until 6pm – so we had to wait for the doors of Miss Lizzie’s to open… and we were glad we did – fun waitress and fantastic food! Now we would have to entertain the challenge of finding somewhere to crash for the night… so motel hoppin’ we went… and opted to pay xtra for the new room and a good, comfortable nights sleep.

The rain is gone… the shoes are gone… we’re gone!!!!!!! Back to Byron Bay with hope of finding Kerri’s trekkers that were left behind the day before… Of course a trendy cup of jo at the Left Bank, smelling the roses (literally, as we sat next to the rose garden!)… followed by a follow up cup, many mountain towns later – when we reached Bangalow. Bangalow is a quaint town 14k’s from Byron Bay (actually – a good Sunday bike ride!)… Kerri and I both fell in love with this quiet spot. We continued on pretty quickly, as I wanted to catch the farmer’s market in Byron before it closed (since we were actually going to be there!) – for some reason I’ve become addicted to exploring markets around-the-world… they are all so similar, yet so very different at the same time.

Once we reached Byron, we realized that the water was still too choppy for our liking, in regards to a sea kayak trip… so we were on our way again… NORTH! Driver, navigator, windshield wipers to go left or right, right of ways… oh, this would prove exciting! ;) We spontaneously made a turn off to the highway to Surfer’s Paradise for lunch… kind of a disappointment for both of us, as it was way too touristy and way too far off the road – but I think we’re both glad we went anyways (ya don’t know, if ya don’t go!) We passed through Brisbane at rush hour (oh yeah!, gotta love timing!)… so we had a little extra time to look at the surrounding buildings and river! We found a little pizza place somewhere in Noosa and had a blast… so much in fact that Kerri made a spontaneous decision that I was driving the rest of the way (all 5 minutes of it) and that she was going to have another drink! OK, so now to test my skills at driving on the NOT-so-right side of the road…thx K! We made it into Noosa Heads pretty late (no complications, other than me (too) using windshield wipers as directionals!)… Prior to dinner, I was a bit agitated (o.k., SEVERLY agitated) from sitting all day – my craving for some activity had left me a bit grumpy, so I figured I’d get a good night sleep and be up early in the morning for a run (nothing like taking to the quickest way to release a lil' pent-up energy!)… this was before I wiped out in the driveway on a patch of algae on the edge of a large puddle… I soooo asked for it! That downward spiral effect, ya know?! Jeez! Now like a little kid w/a pretty not-so-pretty skinned up knee! Oh well… gotta get the laundry done and get ready to go enjoy tomorrow! (Luckily Kerri found Brad Pitt’s ‘twin’ at our backpacker’s bar to keep her entertained for the night since I was not good company!) ;)
